Cherat Packaging Ltd (CPL), established in 1991, is a top Pakistani provider of industrial and consumer packaging solutions. Listed on the PSX, CPL serves sectors like cement, sugar, and FMCG. Its Gadoon facility in KPK produces 260 million polypropylene bags and 19.8 million KG of flexible materials. Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills Ltd (MSM), established in 1964 and listed on the PSX, is one of Pakistan's most efficient sugar mills. Its principal activity is manufacturing sugar with a cane crushing capacity of 12,500 metric tons per day. Located in Mirpurkhas, MSM also runs a Paper & Board Division that can produce 250 tons per day of quality liner board. About Our Founder

Mr. Ghulam Faruque Khan HPk, CIE, Commander of the Order of Merit of Spain, OBE (7 October 1899 – 29 April 1992) was a pioneering Pakistani statesman, industrialist, and visionary leader who laid the foundation for Pakistan’s industrial development. He was the founder of the Ghulam Faruque Group, one of the country’s most respected business conglomerates.

Early Life & Education

Mr. Ghulam Faruque was born on 7th October 1899 in Midnapore, British India, into a prominent Pashtun family of the Khan Khel Khattak tribe. His father, Khan Mir Aslam Khan Khattak (1841–1922), was a respected landlord, civil contractor, social worker, and a leading advocate for Muslim education and rights. The family traces its roots to Shaidu in present-day Nowshera Tehsil, Peshawar, a historic home to the Akor Khel and Khan Khel clans of the Khattak tribe—descendants of Khushal Khan Khattak.

He received his early education at the Aligarh Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, a leading institution of Muslim learning in British India.

Career in Public Service
Mr. Ghulam Faruque began his professional journey in 1921 with the Bengal–Nagpur Railway, rising to become the General Manager of East Indian Railways from 1946 to 1948.

Following the independence of Pakistan in 1947, he moved to the new country and quickly became a key figure in shaping its industrial and economic landscape. His major roles included:

  • Secretary – Industries Division (1948–1949)
  • Chairman – Pakistan Jute Board & Cotton Board (1949–1952)
  • Founding Chairman – Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) (1952–1958)
  • Chairman – Pakistan Ordnance Factory and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) (1958–1961)


He was also instrumental in the negotiation of the Indus Water Treaty and was widely recognized as one of the few prominent pioneers who spearheaded the foundation of industrialization in Pakistan.

Political Career
In 1962, Mr. Ghulam Faruque was appointed Governor of East Pakistan, serving from 11 May to 28 October before stepping down due to political unrest. His long and distinguished political career included stints as:

  • Federal Minister for Commerce and Defence Advisor (1965–1967)
  • Minister for Finance – Planning and Development, NWFP (1971–1973)
  • Chairman – Investment Corporation of Pakistan (ICP) (1982–1992)
  • Member – Majlis-e-Shoora (1982–1985)
  • Senator (1985–1992)


Notably, he remained undefeated in every election he contested

Awards & Honours
In recognition of his services to the public and industrial sectors, Mr. Ghulam Faruque received numerous national and international honors:

  • Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) – 1944
  • Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire (CIE) – 1946
  • Commander of the Order of Merit of Spain – 1956
  • Hilal-e-Pakistan (HPk) – 1958

GFG continues to strengthen its environmental stewardship through extensive plantation drives across its sites. Over 15,000 trees and plants have been added, including indigenous species, shade trees, ornamental species, and fruit-bearing plants such as oranges, mangoes, lychee, and lemon. The drives featured diverse species like Queen Palm, Suk Chain, Sheesham, Pine, Chinar, and Sterkuli, sourced from both in-house nurseries and local markets. These initiatives highlight GFG’s long-term commitment to sustainability, biodiversity enhancement, and Pakistan’s reforestation drive.

26.6 MW Solar Power Installed

GFG has installed over 26.6 MW of solar power across its industrial units, underscoring its firm commitment to environmental stewardship and energy sustainability. This strategic investment marks a significant milestone in the Group’s transition towards renewable energy transformation, reducing dependence on fossil fuels while lowering its carbon footprint. By integrating clean energy into its operations, GFG is not only enhancing efficiency and resilience but also contributing to a greener, more sustainable future for Pakistan.

Over 60,000+ essential medical services provided

Through its extensive network of community hospitals, fully equipped ambulances, clinics, outpatient services, women's development centers, and dedicated ambulance support, GFG has provided over 60,000 essential medical services to underserved populations. These initiatives play a vital role in ensuring accessible and timely healthcare, improving maternal and family well-being, and addressing critical health needs at the grassroots level. By prioritizing inclusive healthcare delivery, GFG continues to invest in the long-term health and resilience of the communities it serves, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and human development.

179,200 tons of Carbon Emissions Reduced

Through the integration of advanced energy-efficient technologies and the adoption of green manufacturing practices, GFG has successfully reduced its carbon emissions by an impressive 179,200 tons. This achievement reflects the Group's unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable industrial development. 1,627+ Wildlife Reserves

Nasir Khan, an alumnus of TCF Ghulam Faruque Campus, exemplifies the life-changing impact of accessible education. Growing up in Jahangira, Nowshera, Nasir’s early years were shaped by limited financial means and few learning opportunities. The holistic environment at TCF not only strengthened his academic base but also equipped him with the values of perseverance and self-reliance that became the cornerstone of his success.

Today, Nasir is pursuing a BS in Computer Science at Gomal University, working part-time as an Administrator and IT professional, and aiming to specialize in Artificial Intelligence - a field he believes represents the future of innovation. His journey stands as a testament to how early educational empowerment can redefine trajectories.
